How to Play - Quick Start Guide for Wall Go
- Objective: Complete the game with the largest territory.
- Setup: The game is for 2-4 players (Human or AI) on a 7x7 grid. You'll start by placing your tokens on empty tiles. Each player gets 20 walls.
- Your Turn:
- Move one of your tokens 0, 1 or 2 spaces.
- This includes L shaped movements which is within 2 spaces. 0 spaces can only be used if you would otherwise have enough space to move forwards and backwards to that same spot.
- You must place a wall to end your turn.
- Scoring: You score 1 point for each tile within an enclosed territory that contains only your token(s).
- Winning: The game ends when;
- All walls are used
- No one can move
- All players are enclosed in a territory
Complete Rules
Game Setup
- The game supports 2 to 4 players on a 7x7 grid
- 2 players: Each player controls 4 tokens
- 3-4 players: Each player controls 2 tokens
- Players take turns placing their tokens on unoccupied tiles
- Each player starts with 20 walls to place during the game
Turn Structure
- Players take turns in clockwise order.
- On each turn, a player first moves one of their tokens, then must place a wall to complete their turn.
Movement Rules
- Tokens can move 0, 1, or 2 spaces from their starting position.
- A 2-space move can be in a straight line (two spaces horizontally or vertically) or an "L" shape (one space in one direction, then one space perpendicular).
- A 0-space move (staying in the same spot) is only allowed if the token has a clear path to move one space away and then immediately back to its original tile.
- Tokens cannot move through walls or off the board.
- Tokens cannot land on a tile occupied by another token.
Wall Placement Rules
- Each player has a maximum of 20 walls for the entire game
- Walls are placed between two adjacent tiles (horizontal or vertical)
- Walls cannot be placed on the border/edge of the board
- Walls cannot overlap with existing walls
- It is legal to completely trap a player's token
- Once placed, walls are permanent and cannot be removed
Scoring
- Players score points for tiles within territories they control
- A territory is an enclosed area where there is only one player's token/s. This means that a player can have multiple tokens in a territory. However, a territory is only counted once per player. Dominate the board in this exciting Devil's Plan inspired game.
- You can create territories for other players by trapping their token
- Each tile in your territory counts as 1 point
Game End
- The game ends when any of the following conditions are met:
- All players have used all of their 20 walls.
- No player can make any legal moves.
- All players' tokens are enclosed within their own territories.
- The player with the most points (largest territory) wins.
- In case of a tie, the game is drawn.
